Q&A WITH TAMANNA ROASHAN:

What is your most valuable possession and why?

My most valuable possession is my fire- my drive, passion, and inner hunger to create. Talent alone can only take you so far. Beauty fades, opportunities shift, and markets evolve. But that inner fire- the desire to grow, to build, to reinvent- is limitless.

Without it, even the most gifted person can stay stuck. With it, you can build anything, survive anything, and rise from anything. That fire has carried me through every season of my life and continues to be the engine behind everything I build.

What are your top 3 life lessons and how have they changed your life for the better (in other words, how have you implemented them to better your life)?

  • Stop comparing and follow your own path.

One of the greatest lessons I’ve learned is that the fastest way to lose your magic is to compare it to someone else’s. The beauty industry is full of trends, noise, and pressure to fit into whatever is currently “working.” But the moment I stopped looking sideways and started focusing on my own lane, everything in my life changed.

Following my own path allowed me to create a signature style, build a loyal community, and become a leader instead of a follower. Your power expands when you stay rooted in who you are, not who you’re watching.

  • Collaboration over competition.

I grew up in an industry that had a lot of cattiness, jealousy, and unhealthy competition. I witnessed talented women tear each other down out of insecurity, and I vowed early on that I would never contribute to that energy.

Choosing collaboration shaped my entire career. It’s what inspired me to start teaching and mentoring long before it was even a “thing.” I shared techniques, opened doors, and helped elevate other artists because I believed (and still believe) that when one woman wins, we all rise.

That mindset not only built my global community- it built my purpose.

  • Know and believe in the value you bring.

Confidence is not arrogance- it is awareness.

Once I fully understood the value I bring to any room, any stage, any project, everything shifted. I walk into spaces with the energy of a woman who knows she’s earned her position, her influence, and her impact.

I “play the part” because I am the part: a global icon who built her name through integrity, skill, and resilience.

When you believe in your value, others have no choice but to respect it. And when you carry yourself like the woman you are becoming, the world rises to meet that version of you.

One of the greatest lessons I’ve learned is that the fastest way to lose your magic is to compare it to someone else’s.

What is the most valuable advice you’ve received and how did it set you up to win?

One of the greatest pieces of advice I’ve ever received came over a decade ago from Anastasia Soare (of Anastasia Beverly Hills), a woman I deeply admire and was fortunate to call a mentor early in my career. I stayed at her home the night of the Golden Globes, where I attended as her plus-one. We sat together afterward, talking about my dreams. At the time, I was a bridal artist and a growing influencer, and I told her that my goal was to move to LA, do celebrity work, and teach globally.

She gave me her blessing and then said something that changed my entire mindset:

“Never forget what started your career. Never forget your clients. Stay connected to the people — that’s what will keep you grounded and keep your artistry alive.”

She shared how even at the height of her fame, she still carved out time to do brows in her salon. Not because she needed to, but because it kept her connected to her craft and to the people who helped build her empire.

A decade later, as my own career exploded- world tours, sold-out masterclasses, launching my brand- I became so busy that I announced I could no longer take clients. But her words stayed with me.

And because of that advice, I tried to make exceptions for a handful of brides here and there… and I felt the spark every single time.

Today, I’m fully back to taking brides regularly again. And I finally understand what she meant:

The work that starts your journey is the work that keeps your soul alive.

It keeps you humble.
It keeps you connected.
It keeps your artistry sharp.
And it keeps your fire burning.

Her advice wasn’t just about clients, it was about identity. And honoring the very roots that made me who I am is what continues to ground my growth, shape my brand, and keep my career meaningful.

What is the worst advice you’ve received and how did it impact you?

Very early in the process of building my brand, a potential investor told me something that went completely against my ethos. He said,

“Launch what sells. Start with palettes, lip products… things the masses want.”

On paper, it sounded logical. Fast-moving products. Bigger margins. Trend-friendly categories.

But in my heart, I knew it was wrong for me.

I didn’t become who I am by following trends- I became who I am by following what felt true to me.

And at my very core, I am an educator. Tools are my foundation. Brushes were my language. They were the heartbeat of my artistry.

So I ignored the advice and followed my gut- even though it meant turning down investment and building everything alone- and I launched my brushes first, against everyone’s advice. Today, my brush sets are considered the best in the industry by my community. They’ve become a signature part of my identity and the backbone of my brand.

The lesson? Authenticity will always outperform strategy when you’re building something long-term.

Looking back, that “worst” advice was actually a gift- it forced me to choose between what was easy and what was true. And choosing authenticity has guided every business decision I’ve made since.

I didn’t become who I am by following trends- I became who I am by following what felt true to me.

What is the one mistake you regret in life, and why?

The mistake I regret most is trying to do everything alone. I’ve built my career, my brand, and my platforms with my own two hands, and while I’m proud of that, it also slowed me down. Projects that could have launched in months took years. Every time I grew in one area, I had to pause another just to keep up.

For a long time, I wore “doing it all myself” like a badge of honor… until I realized it was actually holding me back. It created burnout, delays, and unnecessary pressure. And it made expansion much harder than it needed to be.

If I had learned earlier to delegate, trust support, and lean on others, I’d be much further ahead today. I’m still learning this lesson in real time. I’m in the process of building a team now, because I finally see that support isn’t a luxury, it’s a requirement for the next level. Allowing people in doesn’t dilute my power, it amplifies it.

This change matters to me because my brand deserves to grow without limits. And I deserve the freedom to create, innovate, and lead without carrying every burden on my own.

When you face a challenge, what’s your method to move past it?

When I’m faced with a challenge, I don’t dwell, I move. I’m solutions-oriented, so my mind immediately goes into action-plan mode. Instead of spiraling in the problem, I put my energy into the steps that will get me out of it.

I also look for the silver lining in every setback. I believe that rejection is often protection and redirection, so even in difficult moments, I thank God for guiding and protecting me. Prayer and gratitude keep me grounded and remind me that everything is happening for me, and not to me.

And then I get to work.

Faith + action has always been my formula.

How do you create a work-life balance?

Work-life balance is something I’m still figuring out, if I’m being honest. My life doesn’t always fall into a perfect 50/50 rhythm — some seasons are 70/30, others are 90/10 — and I’ve learned to stop judging myself for that.

I always come back to Brian Dyson’s analogy that we’re juggling balls in the air: some are rubber, and some are glass. That visual changed everything for me. Rubber balls can drop and bounce back (emails, scheduling, certain business tasks). Glass balls shatter if you drop them (your health, your kids, your spirit).

So instead of chasing “balance,” I focus on knowing which balls are rubber and which are glass in any given moment. I move accordingly. I give myself permission to let the rubber ones bounce when I need to protect the glass ones. And when I’m in a business-heavy season, I allow myself to fully show up for that too without guilt.

For me, balance isn’t about being equal, it’s about being intentional. It’s about knowing what truly matters in that moment and showing up for it.

Allowing people in doesn’t dilute my power, it amplifies it.

What “women” hangups have you been a victim to, that you feel sets women up to fail in their professional career?

As a South Asian woman, one of the biggest pressures I saw growing up was the expectation to follow a very specific timeline: graduate, get married immediately, and then start a family right away. Education was important, but often only as a prerequisite for marriage- a badge of honor rather than a launchpad for a career. Instead of being encouraged to use our degrees to build something meaningful, many women were expected to put ambition on pause and “pop babies” as the next milestone.

I did get married right out of college, but I made a very intentional decision to wait before starting a family. I wanted my career to be steady, thriving, and rooted before stepping into motherhood, and that choice gave me the space to grow in ways I’m incredibly grateful for. I know many women don’t feel they have that same permission.

This cultural rush to meet a timeline sets women up for professional struggle, not because they lack talent or drive, but because they’re expected to prioritize everything except their own goals. I believe women deserve the freedom to build their lives in the order that feels right for them, without guilt, pressure, or expectation.

Are you affected by the Confidence Gap, where studies show that women require confidence as well as competence to succeed in the workplace environment, whereas their male counterparts don’t?

Not really. I’ve never felt held back by the Confidence Gap, and I think it’s because I’ve always known exactly what I bring to the table. My confidence comes from mastery- years of honing my craft, teaching globally, and connecting with women around the world.

When I walk into a room, I don’t question whether I belong there. I’ve earned my place through my work, not through external validation- especially not from a man. I decided early on that I wasn’t going to shrink myself just because women are often expected to. If men can take up space boldly, so can we.

What does equality mean to you and is it important?

I actually don’t believe men and women are equal… not because one is “less,” but because women bring an extraordinary depth of strength, intuition, emotional intelligence, and resilience that is truly unmatched. Women carry the world in ways that often go unseen and uncredited.

But I also believe that equality isn’t about sameness. It’s about fairness. It’s about ensuring that women, with all the power and brilliance they bring, have the same access to opportunities, respect, and leadership as anyone else. Equality matters because when women rise, families rise, communities rise, and entire industries transform.

This cultural rush to meet a timeline sets women up for professional struggle, not because they lack talent or drive, but because they’re expected to prioritize everything except their own goals.

In your experience, what types of male allyship do you feel women need to foster at home and at work, to encourage an equitable ecosystem?

The best male allyship is rooted in respect and partnership. At home, it means showing up emotionally, sharing responsibilities, and supporting a woman’s goals with the same weight as their own.

At work, it means listening without dismissing, advocating for women in rooms we’re not yet in, and recognizing our expertise instead of questioning it.

Women don’t need rescuing, we need collaboration and partnership. When men support women without ego or intimidation, incredible things happen.

What would you tell your 18-year-old self, looking back over your life’s experiences?

I would tell her: dream even bigger — you have more fire in you than you realize. Don’t dim your light to make other people comfortable, and don’t shrink your uniqueness to fit into spaces that weren’t built for women like you. Your culture, your identity, your intuition… those are your superpowers.

And one day everything that makes you “different” will be the reason you rise.

What advice would you give to women to help them step into their power?

Stepping into your power starts with trusting yourself more than the noise around you. Women are conditioned to overthink, over explain, and over-apologize… but power comes from clarity. Know who you are, know what you bring, and don’t negotiate your worth.

Also, stop waiting for permission. Men move with certainty because they assume their place; women often wait to be invited in. Walk into the room like you belong there- because you do.

True power isn’t loud or aggressive. It’s a calm knowing: I am her. And everything you do stems from that truth.

Can you share one resource (book, course, mastermind/masterclass, etc.) that you feel all women need to have?

Honestly, I’m not someone who reads a lot of books or takes courses, I barely have time. My greatest resource has always been the circle of women I keep around me. Smart, talented, emotionally aware women who challenge me, inspire me, and support me without ego.

Every woman needs a sisterhood like that- a circle that pours into you, reflects your strength back to you, and reminds you who you are when life gets loud. No book or podcast can replace that kind of power.

Walk into the room like you belong there, because you do.

What mantra do you live by and how has it impacted your life?

“What is meant for you will reach you even if it is beneath two mountains. And what is not meant for you will not reach you even if it is between your two lips.”

This Islamic mantra keeps my faith in God’s plan unshakeable. It reminds me that I don’t need to force, chase, or fear losing anything that was written for me. And just as importantly, it teaches me to release what isn’t mine with grace.

Whenever life shifts, whether it’s relationships, opportunities, or timing, this belief anchors me. It gives me peace in the unknown, patience through setbacks, and confidence to move forward without clinging.

It’s my constant reminder that God’s protection is just as powerful as His blessings, and that everything meant for my life will arrive exactly when it’s meant to.

Which therapies/modalities have helped shape your healing and empowerment journey?

The most transformative “modality” in my life has been the sisterhood I’ve built with my closest girlfriends. Having women I trust who are on my level, who understand the pressures I face, and who cheer for me without jealousy has been the greatest healing force in my life.

We gas each other up, hold each other accountable, remind each other of our worth, and keep each other grounded through every high and low. That kind of support system is therapy in itself.

Women don’t heal alone, we heal through connection. This stands true for everyone, men included. And having a circle of strong and supportive friends has shaped every part of my growth and empowerment especially this past year.
